At Spero Medical, our mission is to support women in making life-affirming choices for themselves and their babies—ensuring that choosing life is not only possible but empowering. All of our programs and services are provided free of charge, and we do not provide or refer for abortion.

We envision a thriving life for every mother, baby, and father. We are committed to supporting women as they carry their pregnancies to term and care for their babies after birth. Our holistic approach promotes healthy pregnancy outcomes, strengthens family stability, and encourages long-term economic self-sufficiency.
Licensed Medical Care
As a licensed medical clinic, Spero Medical offers early, compassionate care through our team of licensed nurses and registered ultrasound technicians—under the supervision of volunteer physicians. Our medical services are often the first point of contact when a woman learns she's pregnant and may be considering abortion.

With the growing prevalence of chemical abortions via abortion pills, early, accurate information and compassionate support are more critical than ever. Using our state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, we are often able to share a baby's heartbeat with the mother as early as six weeks gestation—a powerful, life-affirming moment.
Whole-Woman Support
Our mission goes beyond medical care. We minister to the whole woman, addressing her physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs. Trained Client Advocates walk alongside each woman with love, respect, and the truth that she is a valuable child of God. When we can't provide a service directly, we partner with other agencies for information and referral.

Our Story
The Evolution of Spero Medical
The Beginning (1983)
For more than 40 years, Spero Medical has stood as a trusted and compassionate resource for women facing unplanned pregnancies in Yolo County and beyond. What began in 1983 as a simple pregnancy hotline—fueled by the love and concern of local churchgoers—has grown into a licensed medical clinic offering a full circle of care for women, babies, and families. Formerly known as Pregnancy Support Group (PSG) of Woodland, our organization has always remained committed to empowering women to choose life through practical, emotional, and spiritual support. Over the decades, we've provided free education on pregnancy, prenatal development, and parenting, along with resources such as our "Mommy Bucks – Earn While You Learn" incentive program.
A New Name, A Broader Mission
Recognizing the need to reach more abortion-vulnerable women—especially in Yolo County's diverse and often underserved rural and urban communities—we began a bold transformation. In recent years, we adopted the name Spero Medical, reflecting both our expanded scope and our renewed vision of being a comprehensive, Christ-centered medical clinic that provides hope and healing. Spero means "I hope"—and that's what we offer every woman who walks through our doors. With God's guidance and your support, we will continue to grow, innovate, and serve—always with the goal of saving lives and restoring hearts.
Becoming a Licensed Medical Clinic (2022)
After more than three years of careful preparation, we reached a major milestone in January 2022: Spero became a licensed medical clinic in the State of California. This licensure allowed us to provide critical new services, including: • Medically verified pregnancy testing • Diagnostic ultrasounds • STD testing and treatment • Well-woman care • Abortion Pill Reversal services These medical offerings significantly deepen our ability to engage with women at the pivotal moment when they first discover they are pregnant. Introducing the Spero Circle of Care (2024)
In 2024, we launched the Spero Medical Circle of Care—a comprehensive model that integrates every aspect of our mission, from medical care and education to spiritual guidance and emotional healing. This framework puts each woman at the center of her care experience, ensuring she receives personalized, compassionate support at every stage. Recent program additions include: STD/STI Testing & Treatment: In 2024 alone, our nurses performed 25 tests, creating meaningful conversations around sexual integrity, healthy boundaries, and self-worth—offering clients a vision of value and purpose beyond physical relationships. Christian Counseling: A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist joined our team, offering faith-based counseling that helps women and couples navigate challenges, confront past hurts, and move forward in freedom and healing. Certified Doula Care: Our longtime volunteer and certified birth doula now offers labor support and childbirth education, empowering clients—many of whom may be facing delivery alone—with peace, confidence, and joy during one of life's most sacred moments. Lactation Support: Our Nurse Manager is also a Certified Lactation Consultant, providing expert breastfeeding guidance that helps mothers bond with their babies and thrive in those tender early weeks of motherhood.
Our Commitment Remains the Same
From our beginnings in 1983 to today, Spero Medical has never charged clients for services and has not received government funding. Our work is sustained entirely by the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations who believe in the dignity of life and the power of hope.
